Dr. Stephen Pont
Texas Department of State Health Services
Medical Director
After nearly a decade of practicing general pediatrics in primarily Spanish speaking safety net clinics, co-founding Dell Children’s childhood obesity center, and serving as the Medical Director for Austin Independent School District, Dr. Pont joined the Texas Department of State Health Services in 2017 to lead the newly formed Office of Science and Population Health. Dr. Pont has served on numerous state and national grants, committees and initiatives including co-founding and serving as inaugural chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Obesity and being the lead author on the AAP Policy Statement Stigma Experienced by Children and Adolescents with Obesity. Dr. Pont is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the UT Dell Medical School and is passionate about finding novel and stealthy ways to help children and families make healthy changes leading to healthy, happy lives. Nature is a key way to achieve this goal: get children into nature, provide a healthy snack and so many medical risk factors or conditions can improve. Dr. Pont has served on the C&NN Board of Directors since 2016.
